This is where the swank meets the funk. It’s
where the history of Benjamin Franklin, the Liberty
Bell, and Betsy Ross morphs into one of the trendiest
parts of town with renovated factory buildings,
loft condominiums, and city night lights reflected
on the Delaware River. The arts, the restaurants,
the music, the river, the trendy people—they’re
all here.
Artists and musicians have led the charge in making
a stylish playground out of Northern Liberties’
industrial architecture, and the result is one
of the hottest tickets in Philadelphia. A lot
of the best new restaurants, nightspots, condominiums,
and townhouses are all here—as is easy access
to Old City, freeways, and the Delaware River.
People all over Philadelphia area cite Kelly Drive,
the Schuylkill River’s stunning Boathouse
Row, and Fairmount Park as reasons to live here.
For those lucky enough to live in the Art Museum
neighborhood, all are at your doorstep—as
are some of Center City’s finest arts, culture,
and dining options. The universities, the Free
Library of Philadelphia, and some of the best
outdoor activities available in any city are all
nearby.
This is where it all happens. Washington Square
connects some of Philadelphia’s most famous
locations. On the east edge is the Avenue of the
Arts and the fabulous Kimmel Center. To the west
are Washington Square Park and the Tomb of the
Unknown Soldier. To the north are City Hall, the
train station, the convention center, and the
Liberty Bell. Sprinkled throughout are some of
the most glamorous dining and shopping venues
in the city—including the famed Antique
and Jeweler’s Rows.
The brochures on Society Hill feature classy brownstones,
cobblestone streets, and block after block of
history. But the story doesn’t end there.
Society Hill’s homes are steps from some
of the best shopping in Philadelphia—on
Antique Row and Jeweler’s Row, as well as
at Penn’s Landing on the Delaware River.
The waterfront, the Liberty Bell, trains, buses,
and freeways: everything’s close when you
live in Society Hill.
As more and more trendsetters move to Philadelphia,
these neighborhoods between the Avenue of the
Arts and the Delaware River are heating up. Every
month more and more fantastic restaurants, chic
boutiques, and popular coffeehouses open here
to compliment the bustle and charm of South Street,
the Italian Market, and Fabric Row. (Next time
you are in Bella Vista, stop by one of my favorite
restaurants, Ralph’s, at 8th and Catherine.)
Nestled halfway between the quiet of Fitler Square
and the hubbub of the Avenue of the Arts—and
only a few steps from Rittenhouse Square—the
Graduate Hospital neighborhood is earning a strong
reputation. From airy South Street condominiums
to stately Brownstones, it all comes together
beautifully in this charismatic corner of Center
City.
Peace and quiet? Or downtown excitement? People
who live in Fitler Square have it all. Back gardens
perfect for kids, amazing parks, charming homes—and
it’s within walking distance of the Art
Museum, the Schuylkill River, universities, and
highly regarded restaurants.
Rittenhouse Square will forever be one of the
classiest addresses in America, and for good reason.
Peerless prestige, faithfully restored brownstones,
blue-chip boutiques, and restaurants that star
in national glossy magazines are all just steps
from the Schuylkill River in one direction and
the ballet and orchestra in the other. Many in
this neighborhood also enjoy some of the best
views in the city.
There’s a reason so many of Philadelphia’s
favorite cultural institutions—the Franklin
Institute, the Free Library of Philadelphia, the
Academy of Natural Sciences, the Four Seasons
Hotel, and the kid-friendly Please Touch Museum—are
all huddled around Logan Square. It’s beautiful,
it’s near both the river and the heart of
downtown, and it is well stocked with townhouses,
condos, and Victorians.
The fourth largest Chinatown in the nation is an incredible place to live—and eat! Near Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market and home to countless Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Burmese, and Vegetarian restaurants, this is the neighborhood for dining. Whether original architecture or new million-dollar condominiums are your thing, Chinatown has it all.
Philadelphia's Loft District is a neighborhood in bloom. Industrial buildings are being converted into extraordinary spaces with high ceilings, sunny windows, exposed brick and hardwood floors. It is easy to experience the charm of the Loft District while walking your dog along Kelly Drive, eating brunch at neighborhood diners, or exploring the shops of Chinatown just a few blocks away.
